Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh is working quietly on adding more layers to his cricket. Speaking to JioHotstar, the 26-year-old shared that besides batting, he has been trying his hand at bowling spin during practice sessions. Rinku spoke about the changing nature of the IPL, where huge scores, even beyond 300, are becoming normal. Speaking about that, Rinku said,
"Yes, we can do it. IPL has reached a stage where even 300 is possible; last year, Punjab chased a total of 262 runs. All teams are strong this season — anyone can get to 300."
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting display last year showed how high teams can push the limits, and the trend seems to be continuing. Even this year, they were the first target to cross 300, but their batting dismay made them struggle a lot. Not only that, this season has seen many low-scoring thrillers, with the lowest one being against Punjab Kings against Kolkata Knight Riders only.
KKR starboy Rinku, known for his calm finishing skills, believes that modern T20 cricket demands flexibility. Picking up spin bowling is part of that process — staying ready for any situation.
Although primarily a middle-order batter, he understands that small skills often come in handy. Rinku has been keen to learn whatever he can to improve his value to the team, whether it’s adding variety to his game or refining his shot selection for different phases.

Calmness, Fitness, and Mahi Bhai’s Lessons
Rinku isn’t trying to change who he is. He is simply adding layers. Being a finisher means a lot more than swinging hard. It demands fitness, patience, and calm — a philosophy passed down to him by none other than MS Dhoni. He said,
"I usually bat at No. 5 or 6 — I've done that for UP and in the IPL, so I'm used to it. I focus a lot on fitness because with 14 matches in the IPL, it's my responsibility to maintain my body and recover well."
Rinku added,
"I also speak to Mahi Bhai often — he tells me to stay calm and play according to the match situation. Things fall into place when you stay composed."
seems to be a huge observer of the KKR OG Andre Russell. Watching Dre Russ, understanding when to unleash brute force and when to wait, has shaped him.
"I observe Russell closely, especially how he bats in the final overs, and how he uses his body to generate power."
Meanwhile, today, at the Eden Gardens, KKR will be facing Punjab Kings. Last year, the Shreyas Iyer-led KKR saw PBKS racing past 262 in this field, the highest ever chase. And this year, KKR has already suffered against PBKS in Mullanpur, where the Iyer-led Punjab defended the lowest ever total 111 against KKR.
