Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said that its results are directly for India. In 2024–25, India exported iron, steel and aluminum products worth US $ 4.56 billion to the US, which includes US $ 587.5 million in major categories, iron and steel, $ 3.1 billion in iron or steel articles and $ 860 million in aluminum and articles.
GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava said, “These exports are now in touch with rapidly growing American tariffs, threatening the profitability of Indian producers and exporters.” India has already issued a formal notice in the World Trade Organization (WTO), indicating its intentions to put a counter tariff on American goods in response to the earlier steel tariffs. He said, “With Trump double the tariff now, it remains to be seen whether India will retaliate by increasing tariffs on some American exports within a month,”
