has insisted that he is to blame for his crash with team-mate at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday. The pair collided four laps from the finish, with the Brit driving into the back of his team-mate on the start-finish.

' went on to land the spoils in Montreal with a dominant performance from the front, fending off the valiant efforts of . Rookie driver Kimi Antonelli completed the podium.

McLaren will certainly be unhappy with their overall performance, with Norris' title hopes being handed a blow on lap 67 when he misjudged his move on the start-finish straight. Whilst looking to go down the inside of Piastri, the 25-year-old miscalculated his distances and clipped the rear of his team-mate which ruined his race.

Norris wasted no time in acknowledging that he was at fault for the blunder, saying over the team radio: "Yeah sorry my bad. All my fault. Stupid from me."

Piastri was able to continue racing after the incident and ultimately finished fourth, stretching his Drivers' Championship lead over Norris to 22 points. McLaren will now look into the incident though it is clear Norris was at fault.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown has insisted throughout this season that he felt it was possible to have two drivers battle it out for the Drivers' Championship whilst not damaging the team's hopes - and it remains to be seen whether the crash impacts how he feels now.

After taking the blame in the cockpit, Norris then went on to apologise to Piastri face-to-face in the media pen and made it abundantly clear that the fault lies with himself. He said: "There's no one to blame but myself so I apologise to the whole team, and to Oscar as well for attempting something probably a bit too silly. I'm glad I didn't ruin his race."

Piastri said: "He made quite a large move into turn 10, I held my own into the chicane and it was definitely a tough battle but a clean one until that point. I've not seen the incident but I don't think there was any bad intentions involved. I think it was just unfortunate really."
