Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Divisional commissioner Deepak Singh has instructed the officials of the Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) to listen carefully to the displaced people of Sardar Sarovar Project and resolve their grievances on priority with sensitivity. The official concerned should fix two days in a week for resolving the issues.


A delegation of Narmada Bachao Andolan led by social worker Medha Patkar met the divisional commissioner on Thursday at the office of the Commissioner, Narmada Valley Development Authority in Vijay Nagar and discussed the demands of the displaced people of Sardar Sarovar Project.


On this occasion, additional director of Narmada Valley Development Authority, Shailendra Singh Solanki, joint director Ratna Bochre, sub-divisional officers of Dhar, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur districts, engineers of Narmada Valley Development Authority, land acquisition officer and other concerned officials were present.

The divisional commissioner heard the demands of the delegation and assured that they would be met. He instructed the officials to resolve the grievances of the displaced people on priority.


He also instructed all the sub-divisional officers to keep the NDRF team ready to rescue people in case of a disaster in flood affected areas. The NDRF team should train disaster friends and divers in rescue, so that disaster situations could be dealt with, he said.


The NVDA officials informed that seven ghats had been reserved before the monsoon and 54 hectares of land had been allotted to potters. Apart from this, committees for fishermen had also been formed in 49 out of 178 villages. The government had allotted agricultural land to the displaced people of Sardar Sarovar Project.


They also said that encroachment was reported on the agricultural land of 23 displaced people but it had been removed from some places and possession given to the displaced people.
