Top 3 Knocks By Andre Russell: The superstar West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has called time on his international career. The Jamaican all-rounder is well-known for his destructive power-hitting with the bat and hit-the-deck bowling style.

While Russell made his international debut in 2010 in Test cricket, that was the only Test match he played in his career. His ability as a dangerous ball-smasher and an effective pacer earned him over 140 white-ball internationals for the West Indies.

The 37-year-old Andre Russell was part of the West Indies squads that won the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cups. In the final of the 2016 T20 WC, he bowled with the new ball and dismissed England opener Alex Hales.

Russell rose to become one of the hottest commodities in T20 cricket and earned lucrative gigs in T20 leagues all around the world. While he has announced his international retirement, Russell will continue to showcase his skills in T20 franchise leagues.

In T20I cricket, the lanky all-rounder scored over 1000 runs at a strike rate of over 160, and in ODIs, he scored 1034 runs at a strike rate of 130. Overall, he clobbered more than 140 sixes in his international career.

On that note, let us look at Russell’s three best innings in T20I cricket.

Top 3 Knocks By Andre Russell In T20I Cricket:

3. 40* (14) vs Sri Lanka, Pallekele, 2020

In March 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic just sneaking its way into our lives, Russell blasted the Sri Lankan bowlers for 40 unbeaten runs off only 14 deliveries in Pallekele, which made West Indies’ chase of the target of 156 a breeze.

When the West Indies were 103/3 in the 13th over, the hosts had a good chance of winning the game. But Russell walked in and within a space of a dozen deliveries that he faced, the right-hander had almost sealed the game for the visitors, as he smashed six sixes in his innings.

He batted at a strike rate of 285, which is the highest strike rate he’s managed in an innings in his T20I career in which he scored more than 25 runs.

    2. 71* (29) vs Australia, Perth, 2024

Andre Russell’s highest score in T20I cricket is 71*, which he made against Australia in Perth in February 2024. Russell took only 29 balls to score 71 runs.

Batting at No. 7, Russell’s 71* off 29 balls, which included four fours and seven sixes, took West Indies’ total to 220 and eventually helped them win the game by 37 runs.

      1. 43* (20) vs India, Mumbai, 2016

Perhaps the best and most memorable knock of Andre Russell’s T20I career was his blitz against India during the semi-final of the 2016 T20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Chasing 193, West Indies were 116/3 in the 14th over when Russell walked in. India had broken a big third-wicket partnership and would have wanted to latch onto that brief window of comeback.

However, Russell stunned the host team and silenced the home fans with his pyrotechnics by thumping four sixes and three fours in his knock of 43* off 20 balls. He clinched the match for the West Indies with a six with only two balls remaining and went on to celebrate in front of the Wankhede crowd.
