Following the India versus England Test cricket series, the Indian cricket team, including players like Shubman Gill, will participate in the Asia Cup, played in the T20 format. Later this year, India is scheduled to host two Test series against the West Indies and South Africa. India’s performance in England, achieved with a relatively young team, has sparked interest in the team’s future direction.
A recent report suggests that Shreyas Iyer is expected to be selected for all three formats of the game going forward. Iyer previously stood out as India’s highest run-scorer in the Champions Trophy, scoring 243 runs in five matches. While he has played for India in all formats, he currently participates only in One Day Internationals (ODIs). This may change shortly.
Sources suggest that Iyer’s skill and experience in the middle order are considered valuable across all formats. This was missed during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series in England. Selectors recognize Iyer’s aptitude for playing spin bowling, which is expected to be important during the home season with four Test matches, two against each of the West Indies and South Africa.
The report also indicates that Rishabh Pant, who sustained a toe fracture, will not be available for the Asia Cup and possibly another event. According to sources, Pant will not need surgery for the toe fracture he got during the fourth Test in Manchester. He is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six weeks, which means he will be absent from the Asia Cup and potentially the series against the West Indies.
In a separate event, cricketer Rishabh Pant has offered support to a student from a financially disadvantaged family in Karnataka. Jyoti Kanabur Math, from Rabakavi village, was accepted into the first semester of the BCA program at BLD College. Despite achieving 85% in herPre-University Course(PUC), her family struggled to cover the 40,000 rupees admission fee. After Jyoti ran out of support , Anil, who knows her well, shared her situation with individuals in Bengaluru, and the story eventually reached Rishabh Pant. Impressed by her resolve, Pant transferred 40,000 rupees to the college, ensuring Jyoti could continue her education.
