Many of us have a habit of sitting comfortably or lying down after eating. Often it is considered comfortable, but the truth is that this habit can prove to be harmful for our body -especially heart. Everyday small habits decide our health in a long time. Therefore it is important that we improve them in time.


What happens by sitting or lying immediately after eating?


Digestive obstruction – After eating, the body works on the digestive process, for which blood flow increases in the stomach. This process slows down by lying down or sitting in the same posture.


Pressure on the heart – When both digestive and stable posture have to be handled, there is additional pressure on the heart.


Long-term effects-Due to this frequent this, blood pressure can increase, obesity and the risk of heart disease are also high.

Increasing blood pressure – Blood flow is affected by sitting immediately and the heart has to work hard.


Effect on fat metabolism – Lying especially after heavy or oily food can increase triglycerides and cholesterol, which is associated with the risk of heart attack.


Acidity and Gas – Lying immediately after eating can cause acid reflux, irritation and gas problems.


Slow Metabolism – Sitting or sleeping after eating continuously increases the risk of obesity and diabetes.


What should be done after eating?


Walk lightly (5–10 minutes) – This makes both digestive and blood circulation better.


Do not lie down for 30 minutes – If you want to sit, keep the back straight and do not sit down.


Keep dinner light – Dinner should be lighter at least 2 hours before bedtime.


Deep breath or pranayama – It improves digestion and relaxes the heart.


Drink water slowly-do not drink cold water immediately, light lukewarm water is more beneficial.


Who should pay more attention?


People suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease.


People above 40 years old.


Those people who spend most of the time pass (eg office workers).
