PTC Web Desk: Senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who committed suicide at his Chandigarh residence on October 7, reportedly sent his wife a nine-page suicide note and a will a day before taking the extreme step. His wife, Amneet P Kumar, a senior IAS officer currently posted in Haryana, was in Japan on an official visit at the time.

According to sources, after receiving the message containing the will and note, Amneet made several frantic attempts, around 15 calls, to reach her husband, but none were answered. Concerned, she contacted their younger daughter, who rushed home from shopping only to discover her father lying lifeless on a recliner in the soundproof basement.

The incident is believed to have occurred around 1:30 pm, when Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself with his service revolver. Both the will and the suicide note were later recovered, with the note found in his pocket.

In the detailed note, the late IPS officer reportedly named 12 officers, including serving and retired IAS and IPS officials, whom he accused of mental harassment, administrative bias, and caste-based discrimination. Among those mentioned was DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, against whom Puran Kumar levelled several allegations, including withholding arrears, denying official accommodation, and withdrawing his government vehicle in November 2023. He also alleged that additional rules were unfairly applied to block his housing entitlement and that a false affidavit was submitted to hinder his official requests.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the case, and the suicide note is expected to play a central role in the inquiry.
