A travel blogger from the Peak District has revealed the park's "perfect" village after years of exploring the area. The pretty national park in the middle of England is blessed with heather moors, rugged hilly walks and stunning views as you travel through dramatic green hills and valleys.

It's ideal for adventurous types who want to go biking or walking, and those who just want a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle in sleepy villages with country pubs. Explorer Peaklass said one village is "likely to be the perfect base" for any traveller, whatever they enjoy, when compiling a list of her seven favourite Peak District spots.

The blogger highlighted Castleton, a village in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, at the western end of the Hope Valley.

She said it's perfect for adventurous types because it is the gateway to the famous Mam Tor and Kinder Scout trails, but slower travellers can enjoy meandering from tearooms to pubs.

A 5-mile circular walk takes you past the heather-covered moors of Kinder Scout and the famous peak, which has become popular for those who want to catch the sunrise. Keen walkers can also get to the dramatic limestone gorge of Winnats Pass.

When the legs need a rest, visitors can explore the area's underground caverns, which are the only place in the world where the rare mineral Blue John is known to be found.

To get a slice of culture and history, the imposing ruins of Peveril Castle stand high above the pretty village and it is well worth a visit as one of England's earliest Norman fortresses.

When visitors are ready to relax, or they would rather skip the activities altogether, there are plenty of quaint lanes to explore with independent shops, tearooms, restaurants and pubs.
