Instant messaging app WhatsApp has begun testing a new Status Question feature for Android, according to a feature tracker. It's currently available to a select group of beta testers via the Google Play Store and will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks. It's similar to Instagram's Question Sticker, where viewers can enter their answers directly in the question box. According to the report, these answers will remain private and will only be visible to the sender and receiver.

How does WhatsApp's Status Question feature work?

Feature tracker wabetainfo reports that WhatsApp is rolling out the Status Questions feature to its beta testers in the latest update for Android 2.25.29.12. This update is rolling out gradually, so some users may not see this new feature yet, even if they have installed the latest beta version.

WhatsApp may release this feature to more users in the coming weeks. This will give the company time to fix bugs and other issues, as well as gather user feedback on the new Status Questions feature.

A similar Question Sticker feature exists on Instagram, where users can interact with their followers and viewers by asking and receiving answers to questions.

With this update, WhatsApp will reportedly allow users to add a new Question Box to their Status updates, along with photos and videos. Other users will be able to type in the answer by tapping on the question.

A user can receive multiple answers to a question, which will appear in the 'Viewers List,' as shown in a screenshot shared by FeaturesTracker.

According to the report, if a contact's app version doesn't have this feature enabled, WhatsApp will display a message stating, "This functionality is not currently supported on their version." Replies will only be sent to the person who posted the question, and only they can see them.

Users will receive a notification every time someone answers their question. WhatsApp may also give them the option to share these replies in their next status update. However, the responder's identity will remain hidden. Users may also have the option to report inappropriate replies.

According to FeatureTracker, all these replies will be sent with end-to-end encryption to maintain privacy and security. Only the sender and receiver will be able to view them.
