Amritsar to Saharsa Garib Rath Express fire: Passengers on the Amritsar–Saharsa Garib Rath Express had a frightening start to their Saturday morning when a fire broke out in one of the train’s coaches at Sirhind Station in Punjab. Thankfully, no casualties were reported. The incident occurred around 07:30 hrs and comes under the jurisdiction of the Northern Railway zone.
Railway officials said the fire was quickly detected, and immediate action was taken. “As soon as incident was noticed, swinging into action, Railway authorities shifted the passengers immediately to the other coaches and the fire was also extinguished quickly. The train will depart to its destination shortly. No casualties. Time of incident 7.30am,” the national transporter said in an official statement.
The Amritsar–Saharsa Garib Rath Express (train number 12204) covers a distance of 1,716 km between Amritsar and Saharsa in approximately 31 hours and 20 minutes. The train runs three days a week from Amritsar – Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. It halts at 23 stations along the route, including major stops like Delhi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur and Begu Sarai.
The train consists exclusively of AC 3-Tier (3A) coaches, with ticket fares set at Rs 1,270 for the full journey. The train’s departure from Amritsar is at 04:00 hrs and it reaches Saharsa at 11:20 hrs the following day.
