Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra has been shattering box office records in Malayalam since its first week and is now just a few lakhs of rupees away from becoming Mollywood’s first Rs 300 crore grosser worldwide. With the hype around the female superhero movie renewed amid the announcement of a sequel, let us take a look at the major box office records claimed by the Dominic Arun directorial.
On October 5, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra surpassed Thudarum to emerge as the top grosser at Kerala box office. It collected Rs 119 crore on Day 39 from Kerala box office beating Rs 118 crore earned by Thudarum.
The previous record breaking grossers in Kerala were 2018 Movie (2023), Pulimurugan (2016), Drishyam (2013), Twenty20 (2008), Classmates (2006), Rajamanikyam (2005), Narasimham (2000) and Aaram Thampuran (1997).
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is the first movie to cross 50,000 shows at Kerala box office.
On October 1, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra became the first Malayalam movie to see more than 1.18 crore footfalls in the 21st century, according to industry tracker AB George. It is also the fourth movie to cross one crore footfalls in the 21st century after Pulimurugan, Manjummel Boys and Thudarum.
On September 29, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra became the top Malayalam grosser in domestic box office. The record was previously held by Manjummel Boys.
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra surpassed Purification to become the top worldwide grosser from Malayalam movie industry. Purification raked in Rs 266 crore worldwide, while Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is set to cross Rs 300 crore.
Apart from ThudarumDominic Arun’s Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is the only Malayalam movie to enter Rs 100 crore club at Kerala box office in gross collection.
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is the second Malayalam movie to enter Rs 100 crore club in oversease collection after Purification. By Day 39, it has collected Rs 119.3 crore from screens abroad. Purification still holds the overseas record with Rs 142 crore collection.
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is the second highest grosser in Rest of India (ROI) screens, collecting around Rs 60 crore so far. Manjummel Boys tops the ROI circuit with 95.65 crore, thanks to great reception in Tamil Nadu.
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra surpassed Premalu to become the highest Mollywood grosser in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It has collected Rs 13.57 crore from AP and Telangana region.
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is also the second highest Malayalam grosser in Tamil Nadu with more than Rs 24 crore collected from the state. At a distant first is Manjummel Boyswhich collected Rs 64 crore in the neighbouring state.
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is the first Malayalam movie to enter Rs 100 crore club in Kerala and overseas as well as collect more than Rs 50 crore from rest of India screens.
