This AI ring lets you take notes, control music hands-free

Two former Meta employees have launched a new tech start-up called Sandbar.

Their first product is a unique voice-based hardware device called Stream, a ring that can be used for taking notes and controlling music.

Sandbar's CEO Mina Fahmi, an expert in human-computer interface design, said the ring is "a mouse for voice." It can help users capture voice notes, engage with an AI assistant, and manage music on the go.

How the Stream ring works
Innovative design

The Stream ring, which is meant to be worn on the index finger of your dominant hand, features microphones and a touchpad.

In a virtual demo, Fahmi showed how he could record his thoughts by pressing and holding the touchpad.

The microphone is off by default and only activates with this gesture.

It was sensitive enough to pick up whispers and transcribe them in an accompanying iOS app.

App also comes with an AI chatbot
Advanced technology

The app that comes with the Stream ring features an AI chatbot that talks to you as you record your thoughts.

You can organize these into separate notes, which can be edited by either you or the AI.

The app also lets you zoom out and review what you've discussed over days or weeks.

Sandbar has added a personalization layer so the assistant's voice sounds somewhat similar to the user's.

You can also control music with it
Dual function

Apart from its voice functions, the Stream ring's flat surface also works as a media controller. You can play, pause, skip tracks and adjust volume with it.

While many headphones offer similar controls, this feature of the ring could come in handy when your hands are busy or you're on the move.

Pre-order details

Sandbar has opened pre-orders for the Stream ring at $249 for the silver version and $299 for gold. The company plans to start shipping next summer.
