Medical staff are considered to be the form of God, but when it happens that the same staff becomes the reason for taking the life of your family member, then it can be a big shock for any family. Something similar happened in a hospital in Germany, where a nurse, during her night duty, gave lethal medicines to the patients, so that the patients remained in deep sleep, so that she did not have to work hard at night. And this resulted in the death of 10 patients, while attempts were made to kill 27 patients. The court has sentenced the nurse to life imprisonment.
These cases occurred in a hospital in the city of Wuerselen in western Germany between December 2023 and May 2024. According to the prosecution, this nurse used to administer medicines to the patients in night shifts, and also gave painkillers and sleeping injections to the patients to put them to sleep quickly. This nurse was trying to end the lives of patients instead of treating them. He gave patients high doses of drugs, such as morphine and midazolam, that were so strong they could cause death.
Prosecutors told the court that the nurse became irritated with patients who required more attention and care. He alleged that the nurse had started considering herself the “master of life and death” and used to decide who should be allowed to live and who should not. This nurse was working in this hospital since 2020 and had completed nursing training in 2007.
Investigating this case, the police arrested the accused nurse in 2024 and when the case reached the court, the judge said that his crimes were so serious that he could not be given any chance of release for 15 years. The court also said that the case involved “the gravest gravity of the offence”, and that the accused nurse would have the right to appeal the verdict. The investigation is still going on, and it is being found that the nurse may have killed more patients. For this, bodies are being taken out from the graves and re-examined so that other victims can be identified. If new evidence is found, the nurse could be prosecuted again.
