Brits considering a trip to Dubai, or perhaps a permanent move, are being warned about five lesser-known laws that could result in a hefty fine or even imprisonment.

The glamorous city in the United Arab Emirateshas become increasingly popular with UK residents seeking to escape dreary weather for year-round sunshine, tax-free salaries and lucrative job prospects in a safe, modern environment. With its designer shopping centres, pristine beaches, striking skyline and consistently warm climate, it's no wonder Dubai attracts over 15 million visitors annually.

However, beneath the glitz lie strict regulations and cultural customs that both tourists and residents must respect, including not being drunk in public and wearing modest clothing. However, away from the well-known rules, there are others that are easy to break, according to Tetiana Skoryna, who stumbled upon this harsh reality.

In a TikTok video, Tetiana revealed the stark reality of living in Dubai, including a common pedestrian habit that could result in a hefty fine. The local claimed that crossing the road or street where there is no designated pedestrian crossing, known as jaywalking, could result in someone being fined more than £80.

In addition to this, she also explained that if you're caught taking a photo of someone without their consent, you could face a £103 fine or even time in jail. And that's not all.

Another rule locals or visitors must abide by in Dubai, according to Tetiana, is not washing their cars in public. While it's a common practice in countries across the globe, it's against the law in the emirate, and anyone caught could be slapped with a fine worth more than £100.

The streets of Dubai are notoriously clean, and there's a good reason for it. Anyone who litters on the streets of Dubai could face a fine of over £100, the TikTok user explained.

Another lesser-known rule that Tetiana has warned both locals and tourists about is not sleeping in public - that's even if you're tempted to fall asleep on the beach or park. Anyone seen breaking this rule could be hit with a £62 fine. The video from Tetiana, who has over 300K followers, was shared in September and was met with a flurry of comments. One wrote: "I understand the fine for the litter all country’s should have it."

A second penned: "They may sound over the top, but it works, look at how clean and tidy the city is, nothing but respectful people there. Now go for a walk in your local city and let me know what that’s like."

While a third asked: "You can’t sleep in public? I get on a street, but what about at the side of a pool or on a beach?" Another also noted: "You probably wouldn’t want to jay walk - there’s lots of cars."
