New Delhi: Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir has made it clear that the team is entering a new era, which is built on honesty, accountability and an unrelenting drive for results. As Men in Blue prepared to host the T20 World Cup in 2026, Gambhirβs message is firm- there is no room for excuses or complacency.
Speaking after Indiaβs recent T20 series win over Australia, Gambhir shared a rare insight into the mindset shaping this new chapter of Indian cricket. The BCCI released a short teaser of an exclusive interview in which the former opener spoke candidly about his expectations from the players and the environment he is trying to create.
For Gambhir, it all begins with attitude. βAs a nation and we as individuals should never, never celebrate a series loss,β he said with conviction. The comment quickly resonated with fans online, serving a reminder of his no-nonsense personality that once defined his playing days. His message was straightforward that performance matters but so does the intent behind it.

Gambhir is well known for his intense approach to the game and is a strong believer that real growth happens under pressure. He doesnβt shy away from challenging his players, insisting that only those who can handle tough situations will thrive. He used Shubman Gillβs appointment as Test captain as an example of this philosophy.
βThrow guys in the deep sea, as simple as it can get,β Gambhir said, underlining his belief in letting players learn the hard way. For him, itβs not just about producing short-term results; rather, itβs about building leaders who can handle the weight of expectations. The former cricketerβs approach mirrors the kind of competitive spirit he once brought to the field, demanding tough with a deeply rooted desire to see Indian cricket rise higher.
Beyond tactics and selection calls, Gambhir is focusing on building a culture that values honesty and transparency. βIt has been a very transparent dressing room. It has been a very honest dressing room and that is how we want this dressing room to be like,β he explained. The idea is to foster trust while keeping players accountable, ensuring that no one hides behind excuses when things donβt go to plan.
