Project Cheetah, which started three years ago on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has now entered a new chapter. India is soon going to get eight new cheetahs from Botswana. President Draupadi Murumu will formally receive the leopards from President Duma Gideon Boko during her visit to Botswana on November 14.
This cooperation is an important step towards wildlife conservation between India and Botswana. Botswana was chosen because it and Namibia are home to more than half of southern Africa’s cheetah population. This will increase the genetic diversity and long-term survival potential of the cheetah species introduced into India.
This initiative is not just a conservation project but a symbol of trust, cooperation and environmental partnership between India and Botswana.
