Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken an important step towards the empowerment of working women. Now women in the state will be able to work in night shifts. This decision has been taken after President Draupadi Murmu approved the Uttar Pradesh Factories Amendment Bill.


Safety and consent for night shift


Under the new provisions, women can work from 7 pm to 6 am. However, for this, their written consent will be required, which will be registered in the state labor department. For the safety of women, the government has mandated safe transportation from home to workplace, CCTV surveillance and deployment of security guards.


New system of work and overtime


Women can work continuously for six hours without any break with their consent. The overtime limit has been increased from 75 hours to 144 hours per quarter, and will be paid at double the wage rate. With this, women will be able to get more economic freedom and encouragement towards work.


Now women also in dangerous industries


According to the old rules, women could work only in 12 categories of hazardous industries. Under the new provisions, this number has been increased to all 29 categories. With this, women will get employment opportunities in more fields and they will be able to contribute in every field.


Women empowerment and industrial development


The Chief Minister’s public relations team says that this step has been taken keeping in mind women empowerment, industrial expansion and technical requirements. The aim of the state government is that women can move forward in every field with confidence and security.
