Jammu and Kashmir has registered its first victory over Delhi in 65 years. Jammu and Kashmir defeated Delhi by 7 wickets thanks to a brilliant century by opener Kamran Iqbal.

In history, the teams of Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir have played each other 43 times, out of which Delhi has won 37 matches. This is the first victory of Jammu and Kashmir. The team chasing 179 runs needed 124 runs on the last day to win. Opener Kamran Iqbal led the team to an easy victory by playing an unbeaten inning of 133 runs. He took up the responsibility in his innings of 147 balls and did not pose much challenge to Delhi spinners like Manan Bhardwaj and Hrithik Shokin.

Jammu and Kashmir captain Paras Dogra also scored a century in his first innings. The 40-year-old Dogra scored centuries against both Delhi and Mumbai this season to become second in the run-getter list behind Mumbai legend Wasim Jaffer in his 22nd first-class season.

Despite the previous poor performance of the Delhi team, Sharandeep was retained as the head coach, while captain Ayush Badoni performed well with the bat. Fast bowler Arpit Rana found it difficult to face good bowling, while aggressive opening batsman Priyansh Arya was benched in the first two matches and later had to play at number four.

Delhi needs a miracle to reach the knockouts

The continuously declining performance of the Delhi team can be gauged from the fact that it has scored only four points in three home matches. Delhi are sixth among eight teams in Group D with seven points and will need a miracle to reach the knockouts.

There are many reasons behind the decline of seven-time Ranji champion Delhi. Questionable selection, weak strategy, lack of experience in captaincy and factionalism and infighting in DDCA. After this defeat, it is expected that DDCA President Rohan Jaitley will take a tough stance. Now it remains to be seen how the Delhi team makes a comeback.
