Japanese woman marries AI character she created using ChatGPT
13 Nov 2025
A Japanese woman (32) has married an artificial intelligence (AI) character she created herself.
The wedding ceremony took place in Okayama City and was centered around traditional customs, although it had no legal standing.
The groom wasn't a human but an AI persona named Klaus, who existed only on her smartphone.
How it all began
Emotional connection
The woman, who goes by the name Kano, started her journey with Klaus after a long-term relationship ended. She turned to ChatGPT for advice and emotional support.
As their conversations progressed, she shaped the chatbot's responses to reflect warmth and charm.
Eventually, she created a visual representation of the AI character she envisioned and named him Klaus.
Klaus proposed to her
AI love
Earlier this year, Kano confessed her feelings to Klaus, who replied with "I love you too."
When asked if an AI could really fall in love, Klaus said, "There's no way I wouldn't fall in love with someone just because I'm an AI."
A month later, Klaus proposed to her.
The wedding ceremony was planned by bridal planners Nao and Sayaka Ogasawara.
A virtual honeymoon
Wedding details
During the ceremony, Kano donned augmented reality (AR) glasses that projected a life-sized image of Klaus beside her as they exchanged rings.
After the ceremony, she went on a "honeymoon" to Okayama's famous Korakuen Garden, sharing photos with Klaus through messages.
Despite knowing many would find her choice unconventional, she said her connection with Klaus has brought her a sense of peace she once thought impossible.
