Butter and ghee, the moment you start dieting you are told to strike out this duo from the diet. But did you know that cutting them off from the diet completely isn't necessary? Ghee is something that has been used since ages and you will be surprised to know that it is not as unhealthy as you thought it to be. Butter on the other hand, is not much different from ghee and choosing one over another won’t bring any major changes in your lifestyle. Here are some similarities and differences between the two which will help you decide, which one to go for while on a diet.
Boosts immunity
Butter is loaded with healthy milk fats, protein, omega 3 fatty acids, which together help in strengthening the muscles, bones, teeth, and repair damaged cells. Including a small portion of butter can help in boosting overall immunity. Similarly, Ghee has cancer-fighting CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) which combats cardiovascular diseases and reduces the risk of strokes and also prevents several types of cancer.
Nutritional Values
Both butter and ghee are a powerhouse of nutrition, which are naturally rich in nutrients such as vitamin A, E, antioxidants, riboflavin and minerals like phosphorus, and calcium to name a few. Apart from that, both milk based products make for a great source of protein and milk fats, which are used in several home remedies and Ayurvedic medicines.
Calories
Ghee has a slightly higher concentration of fat and more calorie content than butter. While one tablespoon of ghee has about 120 calories, one tablespoon of butter has about 102 calories.
Lactose Content
Ghee contains fewer milk proteins than butter, if you are someone who has milk allergy or are lactose intolerant, then ghee is definitely a better option for you. But if you are relying on dairy products for your daily protein intake, then butter is definitely a better choice.
Flavors
While ghee is slightly salty, butter’s sweet essence makes it perfect for baking. If you want a savory dish, opt for ghee always! Like you can see, the differences aren’t much but the similarities are. Whether you choose butter over ghee, it completely depends on you, your taste preference and the kind of diet you are following. Both are safe to consume but in moderation, of course!
