New Delhi. The investigating agencies have made shocking revelations about Dr. Umar Nabi, the main accused in the Red Fort blast. During interrogation, it was revealed that he was not only silently radicalizing the students but was also trying to do mind-shaping by changing their identity using 'soft conversion model'. Under this model, an attempt was made to change the religious identity of a girl from Imphal by naming her 'Mariam', which is considered to be the biggest indication of the depth of his secret network.
Investigation revealed that a girl from Imphal was in contact with Umar for a long time. After questioning, she admitted that she used to attend his 'informal sessions' as he was a senior faculty member. However, she said that she never accepted his radical ideology.
Attempt to change identity by giving name 'Mariam'
The agencies say naming the girl 'Mariam' initiated soft conversion—a process in which a person's religious identity is first changed and then the ideology is gradually inculcated.
Investigation also revealed that Umar took advantage of being a teacher in the university. He used to force students to attend 'informal religious sessions'. Many students say that he used to exert mental pressure to follow his instructions.
According to investigation, Umar was suffering from mental disorder, due to which his behavior remained unstable. A family history of mental health problems was also found, exacerbating his aggressive, dual-personality behavior.
