Piers Morgan has admitted he would like to interview Meghan Markle and Prince Harry three-and-a-half years after he stormed off the Good Morning Britain set following a row about the Duchess of Sussex. In March 2021, Piers, 60, clashed with the ITV show's weather presenter Alex Beresford after publicly disagreeing with claims she made during her landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey. It marked the end of his time as a host on the show, and he subsequently reignited the feud a year later, stating that his opinions hadn't changed and that he "didn't believe a word Meghan said."
However, in a new chat, the broadcaster admitted he would now like to interview both Meghan, 44, and her husband Harry, 41, in what appears to be a mellowing of relations. Asked if he would ever make up with the Netflix star, he said: "I'd rather interview Meghan Markle. If she and Harry would like to sit down for a two-hour interview on Uncensored, anytime they like."
Speaking to the Sunday Independent, he also downplayed his reported former friendship with Meghan. "I wasn't good friends with her. I met her once," he insisted.
"I followed some stars because I really liked Suits...and she immediately messaged me with: 'Oh my god, I'm such a big fan', which is quite comical because of the way things played out.
"Then she said she was coming to London, and when can we meet up. We went to my local pub. I thought she was perfectly nice," he shared. Despite his initial impression, he claimed she cut him and others "stone dead" when she met Harry.
Piers, whose latest book is called Woke Is Dead, told the publication she had seen an "opportunity" to garner great wealth. He said she also wanted to "wrestle" Harry away from his family and the monarchy in order to live the life of a "renegade royal".
"That's exactly what she has done, which is very sad," he mused. Despite his desire for an interview with the couple, Piers also insisted he still doesn't believe a word she said on Oprah.
Piers' initial remarks on Good Morning Britain led to more than 57,000 complaints to OfCom, but an investigation found no wrongdoing by the journalist.Meghan and Harry also issued a formal complaint over Piers to ITV and Ofcom.
At the time, Ofcom said: "We can confirm receipt of a standards complaint made on behalf of the Duchess of Sussex." They subsequently ruled that Piers' comments were acceptable, stating that restricting such opinions would be "an unwarranted and chilling restriction on freedom of expression."
