Weight loss stories often look glamorous from the outside, but very few shows the real effort, self-doubt and discipline it takes to transform yourself. Sonakshi Sinha knows this journey firsthand. While promoting her recent Telugu film Jatadhara on Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiya’s podcast, the actor spoke about her love for food, growing up overweight, and the difficult, but fulfilling, path she chose for her health.

She didn’t reveal everything immediately, but the conversation eventually led to the one workout form that she believes changed everything for her.

During the chat, Sonakshi recalled that she did not start her fitness journey to become an actor or to look glamorous. It was not a "Bollywood-ready makeover. Didn’t do it for vanity or for acting," she explained, adding that her decision was rooted in health, not appearance. She had always been a chubby child, and in her own words, she had been "overweight since bachpan."




A turning point arrived when she was just 18. Sonakshi remembered stepping on a treadmill and discovering she couldn’t run for more than thirty seconds. According to her, the moment shook her deeply and forced her to reflect. That was when she reportedly told herself she didn’t want to live an unhealthy life anymore. What followed was not a quick-fix routine, but a long, stubborn journey of discipline and consistency.

How Sonakshi Sinha loses 30 kg in 2.5 years?

Sonakshi said she started working on her fitness during her college years, and it took her 2.5 years to lose weight. She tried everything - yoga, gym workouts, cardio and even weight training. But while each form helped in a different way, one particular workout clicked like nothing else and became the foundation of her fitness routine.

That workout was Pilates. Sonakshi shared that it suited her body exceptionally well and kept her interested because there were “thousands of exercises” to do with the equipment, which meant the routine never became boring. The variety, challenge and full-body engagement helped her stay consistent, something she believes was the real key to success.

The transformation ultimately led Sonakshi to shed 30 kilos, dropping from 95 kg to 65 kg. But she was quick to add that the journey didn’t end with the weight loss. Maintaining it is equally hard, especially for someone who loves food as much as she does. Despite that, she said she has always kept a healthy and positive body image.

More than numbers and clothing sizes, what mattered to her was setting an example. She said she wishes to be a role model for young girls, encouraging them to prioritise fitness without falling into comparison traps. Her message was simple and powerful: “Just be healthy.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Sonakshi Sinha was recently seen in her big Telugu debut, Jatadhara, which also featured Sudheer Babu and Divya Khossla. The film arrived in theatres on November 7, 2025.
