Right now, the Indian cricket team is facing quite a few challenges after their loss in the first Test in Kolkata, while the South African team seems to be riding high. There's some doubt about Shubman Gill's fitness, the batters' ability to handle spin is being questioned, and criticism is flying around plus, they’re struggling to find a solid replacement for the injured players.

Proteas Call Up Lungi Ngidi to the Squad

On the flip side, even without Kagiso Rabada in the first Test, South Africa still managed to clinch a victory, which really highlights their strength. However, Rabada might not be fully fit for the upcoming Test in Guwahati starting on November 22, so South Africa has brought in Lungi Ngidi as a backup.

Rabada picked up a rib injury during a training session before the Kolkata Test, and he might have to sit out the second match as well. Ngidi isn’t inexperienced; he last played for the Proteas in the WTC final against Australia and has taken 58 wickets in 20 Tests.

There are also some unconfirmed reports that two South African players visited Woodland Hospital in Kolkata for a check-up, but the details are still unclear.

As for India, they’ve brought Nitish Kumar Reddy into the squad, and he’s likely to step in for Shubman in the second Test. While Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal are also in the mix, the team already has six left-handed batsmen, and considering Harmer’s effectiveness against them, India will want to avoid making that mistake again.

South Africa full squad:

Temba Bavuma (C), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Zubayr Hamza, Simon Harmer, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, Lungi Ngidi.
