The world of dating is changing rapidly, especially for singles living in urban areas. Relationships now mean much more than just casual flings. Dating platform Aile Network’s recent report, ‘The Commitment Decade’, highlights this shift, highlighting that Indian youth are moving towards serious and lasting relationships by 2025.
In this report, an in-depth analysis of more than 3,400 singles from major cities like Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai has been done. This is not just a story of people bored of casual dating, but it also reflects the new gender dynamics and priorities that are affecting the way love, partnerships and even paying the bills on a first date.
For ‘The Commitment Decade’ report, 3,400 urban singles, mostly heterosexual, were surveyed. Of these, 74% were Millennials and 25% were Gen Z. The purpose of the survey was to know what these people think about love and romantic life in 2025. The data was mainly taken from Bengaluru (19.1%), Delhi (16%), and Mumbai (17.4%).
An interesting fact has emerged in the survey: the traditional way of paying the bill on the first date is now changing. 42.8% people believe that the bill should be divided equally, while 40.1% still believe that the man should foot the bill.
According to Ailey, 53% of Indian women now prefer to split the bill on a first date. They consider it a symbol of their freedom and equality. And 42% of men still believe they should pay the bills, whether out of habit, interest, or generosity.
It is clear from the data of dating apps that people are now tired of light relationships. Nearly 90% of urban Indians now prefer deep and lasting relationships. Half of those surveyed expressed a desire for a serious relationship, and 1 in 3 Millennials said they are ready for marriage within a year.
The report also states that emotional intelligence and mental health are now more important to people than external beauty or wealth. Singles now give priority to understanding each other, better communication and matching of ideas.
