Scotland's World Cup qualification chances were dented after an intervention by VAR awarded a penalty. Rasmus Hojlund scored from the spot to put Denmark back on level terms, with Scotland requiring a win to qualify.

Andy Robertson's foot was on the line of the penalty box, but it appeared unclear if the connection with Gustav Isaksen was in the box, with the Dane falling to the ground outside of it.

One fan said: "The VAR situation around that 'incident' in the Scotland v Denmark game was a joke. The ref didn't even see it as a foul in real time!

"If that's not re-refereeing the game, then I don't know what is. Never a penalty in Scotland v Denmark game... VAR ruining football again," said another.

Soon after equalising, the Danes went down to ten men after Rasmus Kristensen received a second yellow card. The former Leeds United full-back brought down John McGinn just after the hour mark.

The former Rangers striker Steven Thompson said on BBC Sportsound: "Kristensen's complaining and I think he's unlucky. It's a poor decision from the referee."

Michael Stewart, meanwhile, said: "I don't know what he's complaining about. It's blatant.

"He gets sucked in, McGinn has the run on him, and Kristensen pulls him down. Both his yellow cards are stonewallers."

Scotland would go on to retake the lead through Lawrence Shankland. Denmark, however, equalised four minutes later through Manchester United wing-back Patrick Dorgu.

Then, in the 93rd minute, a stunning strike from Kieran Tierney sent them through to a first World Cup in 27 years. Kenny McLean capped the contest nine minutes into additional time by lobbing Kasper Schmeichel from the halfway line.
