Sanjay Bangar, the previous coach of the Indian cricket team, has recently mentioned Ben Stokes, the former all-rounder of Chennai Super Kings, as the best Test all-rounder in the world and has rated him above the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
The shocking decision was taken during a special segment with ESPNcricinfo.
Bangar was asked recently to name a player who could be considered a better all-rounder than Jadeja in the longest version of the game. Jadeja has been India’s main performer in the format and has also been displaying his batting mastery since the England tour.
Ben stokes in the greatest Test all rounder: Sanjay Bangar
Former cricketer Sanjay Bangar, who was coach of the Indian team in the past, made a bold statement at a session saying that ex-CSK star was the greatest ever Test all-rounder over India’s Ravindra Jadeja. A 53-year-old former Indian coach, during a segment, ‘Stay silent until you hear a better Test all-rounder than Ravindra Jadeja’ with ESPNcricinfo, picked the man superior to Jadeja.
The session began with Indian all-rounder Axar Patel and proceeded with the names of Jason Holder (West Indies), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh), Marco Jansen (South Africa), Mitchell Santner (New Zealand), Roston Chase (South Africa), Mitchell Marsh (Australia), Cameron Green (Australia), and Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh).
Sanjay Bangar was silent until the name of the England all-rounder Ben Stokes was mentioned. Bangar then declared him as the one who is better than the Indian maestro.
Ravindra Jadeja remains the top player in the ICC rankings for Test all-rounders.
Jadeja has achieved a remarkable milestone by being one of the few players to score over 4000 runs and take more than 300 wickets in Test matches. Daniel Vettori, Kapil Dev, and Ian Botham are among the cricketers who share this distinction with him.
Jadeja is undeniably at the top of his game, holding the no. 1 spot in ICC Men’s Test all-rounder rankings with a whopping rating of 426. He has been one of the best players for India while Ben Stokes has the third position in the list with 295 points.
In his Test career, Jadeja has scored 4035 runs in 131 innings, and he has also taken 342 wickets in 165 bowling innings for India. On the other hand, Ben Stokes has made 7032 runs in 206 innings and has been the wicket-taker in 230 innings out of 170.
Ravindra Jadeja was one of the Standout performers at the Eden Gardens
Ravindra Jadeja, who represents India as an all-around player, was the brightest among others in the recent match against South Africa at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The marking of his performance during the second inning on Day 2 was the biggest reason for his being among the top players in the game.
The Indian batsman hit 27 and 18 runs in the two instances of play and took 4 wickets in total. After being wicketless in his first spell, he bowled 20 overs giving away 50 runs and took 4 wickets.
Jadeja is likely to remain one of the most strategic players in India’s Test series, starting off with the match at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, which will be held on November 22.
