Crime dramas are a staple of British television, but there are some out there which tower above the rest in the eyes of viewers. One iconic series that has now been labelled as the greatest ever made is ITV's Unforgotten. Hitting screens in 2015, the series follows a team of London detectives, led by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunny Khan, who reopen and attempt to solve cold cases

Each series opens with the discovery of human remains, some concealed for decades , sparking an investigation that draws a new group of suspects to the surface, each carrying dark secrets from their past. Six series have aired so far, with the latest airing in February this year and it has been confirmed that a seventh is on its way. Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar star as Cassie and Sunny, with Sinéad Keenan joining the cast in the later seasons.

Other well-known actors who have starred in the series include Mark Bonnar, MyAnna Buring, Peter Egan, Tom Courtenay, and Bernard Hill, and Sheila Hancock.

Unforgotten has delivered several standout performances, with Tom Courtenay winning the 2016 BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actor for the first series and Mark Bonnar taking home the 2017 BAFTA Scotland for Best Actor in Television for his role in series two.

In 2023, during its fifth season, Unforgotten averaged more than eight million viewers and was the number one drama on ITV1 and ITVX. The series has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and all six seasons are available to stream on ITVX.
