Sahebganj: Udhwa Sanctuary located in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand is echoing with the chirping of migratory birds. Like every year, as soon as winter arrives here, this time too these birds are being seen from Siberia, Europe and other places. Their base is situated on Patra Lake present here. Its natural beauty, rich biodiversity and serene environment give it importance as a major wetland.
Apart from this, Urban Development cum Technical Education Minister Sudivya Kumar has also tweeted from his X handle. He has written that with the arrival of winter, lovely birds have come as guests in Udhwa. He further said that this bird sanctuary situated in the lap of river Ganga is an important and attractive tourist destination of Jharkhand.
Let us tell you that Patra Lake has received international recognition as a Ramsar site. With this status given by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Patra Lake has become the first Ramsar site of Jharkhand. This announcement has not only created a moment of pride for the state, but has also opened up new possibilities for the development of this region.
In 1971, an international agreement was made for the conservation of wetlands in Ramsar city of Iran. Under this agreement, important wetlands around the world are identified and given the status of Ramsar site. A total of nine criteria have been set for this, the main of which is that the wetland should be natural and at least 20,000 migratory birds visit there. Patra Lake meets these important standards, hence it has received this prestigious recognition.
