Air Pollution: Delhi’s poisonous air is now affecting cricket too. In view of the increasing air pollution in the country’s capital, BCCI has taken a big step. BCCI has taken a big decision keeping in mind the health of the players. The board has announced to shift the knockout matches of the Men’s Under-23 State A One-Day Tournament outside Delhi.
If reports are to be believed, BCCI has indicated to Mumbai Cricket Association to be ready to host these matches. Earlier these knockout matches were to be played in Delhi between 25 November and 1 December. But in view of the poor air quality in Delhi-NCR, it has been decided to change the venue. AQI in Delhi has crossed 400.
There has been a thick layer of smog in Delhi for the last few days and the air quality remains ‘severe’. According to doctors, playing cricket in the open in such an environment can have a bad effect on the lungs of the players and may cause difficulty in breathing.
Mumbai Cricket Association is now busy preparing for these matches. It is being told that these matches can be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and MCA Ground of Bandra-Kurla Complex. Before the knockout matches, the last phase of the league stage of the tournament will be played in Vadodara, after which 8 teams will qualify for the knockout round, which will now go to Mumbai instead of Delhi.
