When Nitish Kumar took oath for the 10th time as Bihar chief minister along with 26 ministers, who were inducted into the new cabinet, an unknown face, Deepak Prakash, was among them.
The 36-year-old techie stood on the stage wearing a casual shirt and jeans as he shook hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He is the son of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha and MLA Snehlata Kushwaha, who won the Sasaram seat in the recent election.
Deepak's appointment sparks criticism over dynastic politics
Controversial decision
After the results, it was widely speculated that Snehlata would be chosen to fill the one ministerial berth given to the RML. However, his father, the RML chief, positioned him instead.
The RLM had won four out of six seats it contested.
According to TOI, neither CM Kumar nor Union Home Minister Amit Shah supported Kushwaha's push for his son's ministerial appointment and the rookie's name was finalized at the last moment.
Deepak's political journey and future prospects
Political debut
Speaking to Aaj Tak about his appointment, he said he wasn't new to politics, as he had been watching his father since childhood.
"Yes, I got the ministerial post, but I am not new to politics. I have been closely watching politics since childhood, watching my father work, and I have been active in the party for the last four to five years," Deepak said.

Attire choice
Deepak holds a B Tech in Computer Science from Manipal's MIT and worked in the IT sector for four years.
Asked about his outfit choice, Deepak told the channel, "Politics should be as close to the common people as possible. And when ordinary people are close to politics, democracy strengthens. As for clothing, I wore what was comfortable, and I will continue to do so...Whether I switch to kurta-pajama later, time will tell, but comfort comes first."
