UPI Without Internet: The scope of digital payments is continuously increasing in India and now the government has taken UPI to a new level. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched an offline payment facility named UPI Lite X. With the help of this feature, users will now be able to make UPI payments even without an internet connection. This step is being considered a big change in rural areas, network weak places and low-internet areas.


How will it work? (UPI Without Internet)



  • UPI Lite X runs on Bluetooth technology.

  • Even if there is no internet on the phone

  • Bluetooth connection will be made with the phone in front.

  • And the payment will be completed in seconds


According to NPCI, this feature has currently been started for small payments (low-value transactions), so that dependence on cash can be reduced.


Who will get the most benefit?


This feature will prove to be a game changer especially for these people—



  • Users in villages and small towns

  • small traders in markets

  • students and youth

  • Passengers in crowded places like metro/bus

  • weak network areas

  • The government believes that this will increase the reach of digital payments to 100%.

  • mobile-to-mobile payment

  • However, internet will still be necessary for big transactions.


When will the feature come to all phones?


NPCI has announced that all major banks and UPI apps (Paytm, PhonePe, GPay, BHIM) will roll-out this update in the coming months. This feature is likely to be activated across the country by February–March 2025.
