Sunjay Kapoor Will Case: The ongoing legal dispute regarding the property worth Rs 30,000 crore of Karisma Kapoor’s late ex-husband and businessman Sanjay Kapoor is getting deeper. On Friday, November 21, a new twist came in this case, when the petition filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children on behalf of the 6-year-old son of Sanjay Kapoor’s second wife Priya Sachdev was opposed.
During the hearing before Justice Jyoti Singh in the Delhi High Court, senior lawyer Akhil Sibal, appearing for Priya’s son, argued that the questions raised by Karisma’s daughter Samaira Kapoor and minor son on the authenticity of the will are based only on speculations and conjectures.
According to PTI, Sibal said that there was no delay in giving the will to the family. According to him, in the meeting held on July 30, the plaintiff party clearly knew three things from the will – the date of the will, the witnesses, they have been left out of the will. The lawyer said that after this meeting, till August 22, no contact was made on behalf of Karishma’s children asking for a copy of the will.
Sibal said that the copy of the will was not given only because the plaintiff party had refused to sign the confidentiality document. He also argued that Karishma’s children already knew that their names were not in the will, so they were going to challenge the will in any case, whether it was real or fake.
Sibal said that the plaintiffs could have claimed that they were not being given a copy of the will, hence the matter was suspicious. But he already knew that his name was not in the will, so this challenge was part of the strategy.
Akhil Sibal told the court that before Sanjay Kapoor’s death, there was no rift in the family and all relationships were normal and cordial. This statement came just a day after Priya claimed that it was a healthy tradition in her in-laws’ house for a husband to give property to his wife – Sanjay’s father had also given his property in his wife’s name.
The court has now fixed the next date of this case for a week later. Along with this, the court is also hearing the petition of Karishma’s children, in which they have demanded that till the settlement of the will dispute, Priya Sachdev should be prevented from selling any property, transferring it to anyone or making changes in it. Karishma’s children have also raised serious questions on the authenticity of the will.
