Lucknow. The campaign being run on water conservation in Uttar Pradesh has now become an example at the national level. On the initiative of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, revival and conservation of water resources in the state is being implemented in mission mode. This is why today ‘Yogi’s UP’ has become an inspiration for other states in the field of water security and water management.

Rejuvenation of reservoirs in 75 districts

The State Government under “AMRUT Mission” gave priority to those schemes which are directly to water harvesting, recharge and clean environment. Under this mission, the work of revival and beautification of reservoirs was completed in all 75 districts.

Revival of 52,000+ ponds and water structures

More than 52,000 ponds, old reservoirs and tank systems were given new life in various districts of the state. On the one hand, this led to a significant improvement in the water level in rural areas, while on the other hand, the cultural importance of traditional water structures was also restored. According to government estimates, water availability in more than 22,000 water structures is continuously increasing, which is a big relief for farmers.

Lakhs of farmers will benefit from irrigation projects

To strengthen the canal system, the government has approved 95 new projects. Upon completion of these projects, irrigation capacity will be restored in approximately 36,000 hectare area, which will directly benefit approximately 9 lakh farmers. Along with this, conservation of government land has also been ensured, which has given impetus to long-term development.

More than 20% increase in groundwater recharge, good news for people

Special emphasis is also being laid on raising the groundwater level in the state. Under this, about 42,000 construction works of rain water harvesting, check dams and other structures have been completed. The positive impact of these efforts has been that groundwater recharge has increased by more than 20%, which is a major achievement for drought and water stressed areas, especially Bundelkhand and Vindhya.
