News India Live, Digital Desk: If you live in Delhi-NCR, then when you opened your window this morning, you would have seen not fresh air, but a thick, poisonous blanket of smoke and smog. This is not an ordinary fog, this is the pollution that is now directly attacking our lungs. With the onset of winter, the biggest fear of Delhiites has now become a reality. The situation is such that the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city has once again reached dangerous levels. The figures are scary! According to the latest reports, the average AQI of entire Delhi has been recorded at 359, which comes in the ‘Very Poor’ category. And that’s just the average! If we talk about some hotspots of Delhi like Anand Vihar or Bawana, the situation is even worse there. At many places, meters are desperate to touch the figure of 400, which is considered ‘severe’ or serious in common language. In simple words, we are not breathing air, but are living in a kind of ‘gas chamber’. Brakes on the speed of trains, passengers worried. This poisonous smog has not only affected our health but has also affected the speed of Delhi. Due to fog in the sky, visibility has become so low that it has become difficult for vehicles to move. This has had a direct impact on the Railways. It is reported that due to low visibility many trains of Indian Railways are running late (Trains delayed due to smog). People coming to Delhi from other cities have to wait for hours. This smog has become a problem for early morning office goers and school going children. Complaints of burning sensation in eyes and difficulty in breathing have now become a household story. Government and Restrictions: As pollution levels increase, restrictions are being implemented under GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan), but at present there seems to be little hope of relief for the common man. According to the Meteorological Department, due to slow wind speed, pollutants have accumulated at one place and it is difficult to get rid of them for the next few days. What to do now? The advice of experts is very clear, if it is not necessary then avoid morning walk. Especially the elderly and children should stay away from this poisonous air. The use of masks is not only for Covid, now it has also become very important to protect from the air of Delhi. This condition of Delhi forces us to think every year that when will we get that ‘clear blue sky’ Delhi? At present, caution is the best protection.
