IND vs SA: The ongoing two-match Test series between India and South Africa has now entered its second match. After this match starting from November 22, both the teams will face each other in the ODI series. Before this three-match ODI series, the biggest problem for Team India has become the fitness of Shubman Gill. Gill has not fully recovered yet, hence the fear of him being out of the ODI series has deepened.

Gill’s fitness increased Team India’s problems

Shubman Gill also had to sit out of the second Test being played in Guwahati. There is constant pain in his neck. While batting during the first Test, the pain increased so much that he retired hurt and was forced to leave the field. After this, he did not play in the match again and the medical team took him to the hospital. According to reports, Gill is still not fully fit, so his chances of playing in the ODI series are very less.

BCCI source gave update

Speaking to Times of India, a BCCI official clearly said that Gill will not be available for the ODI series. The medical team has advised him rest and his recovery is being constantly monitored. It is believed that Shubman Gill can make a comeback in the T20 series first instead of the longer format, which will be played after the Test and ODI.

Names of three players in discussion for ODI captaincy

In the absence of Gill, the question of captaincy of Team India has become bigger. According to reports, names of three players are in the forefront. Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Shubman Gill (Gill would have been a natural choice if he was fit). Rishabh Pant is captaining in place of Shubman in Guwahati Test, hence Pant is considered a big contender in ODI also. At the same time, Axar Patel is also being seen as a mature option in limited overs.

The ODI team has not been announced yet by Team India, but South Africa has already selected its ODI and T-20 team. In such a situation, it will be a big challenge for the Indian selectors to find the right captain to replace Gill.

The pain started in the first test itself

In the first Test played in Kolkata, Shubman Gill started suffering from neck strain while batting. He had to retire hurt after playing only three balls. He did not come on the field even in the second innings. This injury is now raising a big question on his availability for the ODI series.
