If you're looking for a festive place to visit that's known for its history, quaint streets and beautiful style - there's one place you can't miss. As one of the UK's most prestigious and stunning cities, Oxford is even prettier around Christmas.

It has also been named by TimeOut as one of the most walkable cities, meaning you can easily explore it on foot. The lead-up to Christmas is the perfect time to visit Oxford. The city is home to a traditional, quaint and small Christmas market which is especially charming.

You won't find the mass busy festive markets of other larger cities in Oxford but you'll instead be able to wander around an authentic one set amongst stunning historical architecture.

Visit Oxford says: "December in Oxford is a magical time when the city transforms into a festive wonderland.

"The historic streets, filled with their iconic spires and centuries-old colleges, come alive with holiday cheer, creating an atmosphere that's both cosy and vibrant.

"Twinkling lights adorn the city centre, and the sound of Christmas carols fills the air, with choirs performing in some of the city's most breathtaking venues, like Christ Church Cathedral."

If you're planning to visit the Christmas market, it opens on December 1 and runs until December 18. You can also enjoy ice skating at Oxford's Ice Rink - an activity which is popular at this time of year.

If you've never been to the city before, you should also consider the opportunity to visit the world-famous university buildings.

With their pristine buildings and iconic reputation, it can be fascinating to see with your own eyes.

Oxford is a city which has a huge reputation with international tourists and it's one you shouldn't overlook, especially over winter.
