'The epitome of greatness': Amitabh mourns Dharmendra's death

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has paid tribute to his Sholay co-star and dear friend, Dharmendra, who passed away on Monday.


The veteran actor passed away in Mumbai at the age of 89 following age-related complications.


In a heartfelt note shared on his blog, Bachchan wrote: "Another valiant giant has left us... leaving behind a silence with an unbearable sound."

Bachchan, who first worked with Dharmendra in 1974's Dost, reminisced about the late actor's impact on him and the industry.


He wrote, "Dharam ji, the epitome of greatness... for the largeness of his heart, and its most endearing simplicity."


"He brought with him the earthiness of the village in Punjab, he came from... The fraternity underwent changes, not him."

Bachchan and Dharmendra's friendship transcended their professional collaborations.


They starred together in several films, including Chupke Chupke, Naseeb, Ram Balram, and Hum Kaun Hain.


Their on-screen camaraderie in Ramesh Sippy's Sholay (1975) is still remembered as one of Bollywood's most iconic friendships.


Dharmendra's final film appearance will be in the upcoming film Ikkis, which also stars Bachchan's grandson Agastya Nanda and Jaideep Ahlawat.

Dharmendra had been struggling with health issues for weeks prior to his passing.


He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in October after experiencing breathlessness and was discharged on November 12.


The veteran actor was cremated at Pavan Hans Crematorium on Monday.
