'Tumbbad 2': Anand Gandhi clarifies his role in the sequel

Anand Gandhi, who served as the executive producer and creative director of Tumbbad (2018), has clarified that he isn't involved in the upcoming sequel.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, he said, "None of my original creative collaborators and I are involved with Tumbbad 2."

"For that reason, it's difficult for me to emotionally see it as a direct continuation of the film we made together."

Gandhi emphasized the importance of honoring the audience's connection with Tumbbad.

He said, "What I do feel strongly about is the connection the first film has with its audience."

"People have a very personal relationship with Tumbbad and what it meant for Indian cinema."

"My hope is that whatever form Tumbbad 2 takes, it honors that relationship and respects the sentiments of the fan community."

In July, Gandhi claimed he was the director of Tumbbad, a statement that surprised many, since Rahi Anil Barve was credited alone as the director.

He explained, "I understand that it sounded 'stunning' in a headline, but from my point of view, I was simply stating my role in a long, well-documented creative process."

The film underperformed at the box office during its initial release but became the second-biggest re-release grosser when it hit theaters again last year.
