Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has begun training after undergoing surgery for a serious spleen laceration.

Iyer suffered the injury during the 3rd ODI against Australia on October 25, when he fell on his left side while attempting a diving catch.

Initial scans in Sydney revealed internal bleeding, leading to his immediate hospitalization and ICU admission under the supervision of BCCI and local doctors.

A minor surgical procedure was performed to stop the internal bleeding, after which Iyer's condition stabilized.

The Indian batter, who was later discharged, stayed back in Sydney for follow-up assessments before returning home.

On his return, the 30-year-old reassured fans that he is "getting better every passing day."

Since then, Iyer has been under regular medical supervision of Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala.

When will Iyer return?
Training resumption

Iyer, in his latest Instagram story, was seen exercising, hinting at his return to training.

Despite this progress, the Indian batter will miss the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, starting November 30.

Medical experts earlier estimated a layoff of minimum two months due to the seriousness of spleen injuries, which can pose other risks related to blood filtering and immune function.

Iyer's role in Team India
Team dynamics

Iyer was India's vice-captain for the ODI series Down Under. His appointment came after Shubman Gill was elevated to the leadership role in October.

As of now, Iyer has slammed 2,917 runs from 73 ODIs at an average of 47.81. His strike rate is close to 100.

The Indian batter has hammered 5 tons and 23 half-centuries in the format. He has over 6,000 List A runs.
