About PM Surya Ghar Scheme

The Government of India, keeping in mind household electricity needs, launched the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme on 15 February 2024. The scheme aims to provide solar power for free electricity to families nationwide. Under this program, the government subsidizes solar panel installation on rooftops, with the subsidy amount depending on the capacity of the solar system installed.

Example:



  • If your household consumes up to 150 units per month, a 1–2 kW solar system is sufficient, and the government provides ₹30,000–₹60,000 subsidy.


  • For consumption of 150–300 units, a 2–3 kW system is required, with ₹60,000–₹78,000 subsidy.


  • For 300+ units, a system larger than 3 kW is needed, with a subsidy of ₹78,000.



Eligibility for PM Surya Ghar Yojana

  • Must be an Indian citizen.


  • Must own a house with a roof suitable for solar panels.


  • Must have a valid electricity connection at home.


  • Should not have availed any other solar subsidy scheme previously.



How to Apply for PM Surya Ghar Scheme
  • Visit the official website: https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in


  • Select your state, DISCOM (electricity distribution company), consumer number, mobile, and email to register.


  • Log in using your consumer number and mobile.


  • Click on “Rooftop Solar” and fill out the application form.


  • Wait for DISCOM approval (Feasibility Approval).


  • After approval, get your solar panel installed by a registered vendor.


  • Apply for net metering after installation.


  • Once DISCOM inspection is completed, they issue a commissioning certificate.


  • Upload your bank details and cancelled cheque; subsidy will be credited to your account within 30 days.


  • Required Documents for Application

    • Identity proof: Aadhaar card, PAN card, etc.


    • Address proof: Ration card, electricity bill, etc.


    • Latest electricity bill


    • Ownership proof of the house roof
