Mumbai: Ram Gopal Varma’s hit movie Rangeela is all set to hit the theatres once again on November 28th. The filmmaker spoke of the iconic movie in an exclusive interview with TV9. He stated that he would have liked to make the movie with Sridevi, Nagrjuna and Rajinikanth.

“Most of the times, I get influenced by some films that have influenced me. Like Raat and Bhoot were influenced by The Exorcist. The Godfather influenced Satya and Shiva. I was very influenced by Hollywood musicals Sound of Music and Singing in the Rain, in the 1960s. So, I wanted to make something like that,” said the filmmaker.

The director then divulged that initially, his plans for the cast of Rangeela were different. However, it was altered due to various circumstances.

He stated, “Initially, I wanted to make Rangeela with Sridevi and Nagarjuna and wanted to ask Rajinikanth for the Jackie Shroff role. It was a basic thought. But Sridevi wanted to do the action film Gunda instead of Rangeela. Then I forgot about the film. A couple of years later, I was shooting a film called Gaayam, which Mani Ratnam and I co-scripted. Urmila Matondkar was playing the second lead in that film. I saw her dance in that film and thought if I make Rangeela, I should make it with her. In that moment of spark, I decided to make Rangeela.”

Rangeela, released in 1995, featuring Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar, is a timeless classic. Commenting on the film and its re-release, Aamir Khan stated, “This is one of my most favourite films. I really enjoyed playing my character in it. And it has amazing songs; AR Rahman was at his peak. Urmila’s performance is outstanding, and Jaggu (Jackie Shroff) has also done a great job.”

Sharing the movie’s song on Instagram, Urmila Matondkar stated, “#TanhaTanhaYahanPeJeena for the days when the heart waits even without expecting  #Rangeela re-releasing in Cinemas on 28th November 2025!  Tanha Tanha Yahan Pe Jeena Song is Out Now on @tips Official YouTube Channel!”
