Jake Paul has been told he can do some damage to Anthony Joshua, providing he lands the right hand clean.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer faces his toughest test yet when he takes on the former two-time unified heavyweight champion in a Miami melee on December 19. Paul has largely stat-padded his professional boxing record with wins over ex-UFC stars since making his debut back in 2020.
Paul, 28, has defeated the likes of Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz and Ben Askren. With a professional record of 12-1, the American's only defeat inside the squared-circle came against Tommy Fury two years ago. The 'Problem Child' has not fought since his points victory over boxing veteran Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in June.
Many were left stunned after his bout with Joshua was announced. Paul does have some slight experience at heavyweight after he moved up and defeated Mike Tyson last November. That said, Joshua is a whole different ball game. The American could use all the help he can get ahead of the blockbuster brawl.
Joshua's former opponent, Andy Ruiz Jr, has given Paul some crucial tips ahead of December's showcase. The Mexican star famously dropped 'AJ' four times before securing a famous victory back in 2019. However, just months after their initial encounter, the British star got his revenge to reclaim his heavyweight titles.
But after knowing exactly what it's like to beat Joshua, Ruiz Jr was asked how Paul can topple the heavyweight behemoth. "Just get him with the right hand," he told TMZ. "That's what Jake Paul is lookin' for, the right hand, and if he lands, he can do good damage." He added: "A lot of people underestimate Jake Paul, but in reality, he's a good fighter, and he's dedicated, and that's what I like about him."

Many are expecting a one-sided affair in Miami, but Paul sees holes in his foe's game. "His footwork. His rhythm. His speed and crossing his feet. All of these things are going to have a big play on Friday, December 19," he said. Having watched the former two-time heavyweight champion against the likes of Oleksandr Usyk and Ruiz Jr, the 28-year-old believes that being the smaller fighter on the night may actually give him the edge.
"I think it's watching his Daniel Dubois fight. Watching the Andy Ruiz Jr fight and even watching the Oleksandr Usyk fight. And when you look at it, he has lost to guys who are smaller than him. I think it's his weakness. It's his kryptonite. It's the faster guys who do not get hit by his big punches," he continued.
"He is an amazing fighter and one of the best heavyweights ever. I just think with speed and footwork and being in a rhythm, I do not think he can handle that and he does not like that because he is a little bit stiff. He does rely on his power. Obviously, you get hit by one of his shots, you're cooked, but I believe I will be able to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee."
When is Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul?Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul will clash in Miami on December 19, just six days before Christmas. Fight times are usually set to benefit the American audience and are subject to change depending on how long the undercard takes to complete. The event is set to be shown live on Netflix.
