In Hindu traditions, observing the Ekadashi fast is regarded as a highly revered and beneficial practice. This fast transcends mere ritualistic observance; it serves as a profound means of self-purification and a way to earn the divine blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Throughout the year, there are 24 occasions for Ekadashi fasting. Renowned astrologer from Ujjain, Pandit Anand Bhardwaj, provides insights into the specific dates for Ekadashi this year. He emphasizes that this fast is not just about abstaining from food, but rather a disciplined spiritual endeavor undertaken with devotion and self-control.
Those who faithfully observe the Ekadashi fast are believed to be absolved of their sins, gaining peace, prosperity, and good fortune. The blessings of Lord Vishnu are said to enhance positive energy, mental tranquility, and familial happiness.
When is Mokshada Ekadashi observed?
This year, according to the Hindu calendar, the Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi will take place from 9:29 PM on November 30th to 7:01 PM on December 1st, 2025. Based on the Udiya Tithi, Mokshada Ekadashi will be observed on December 1st.
Avoiding Laziness
On the day of the fast, it is crucial to steer clear of laziness. Napping during the day or waking up late can compromise mental clarity and, as per scriptures, lessen the fast's effectiveness. Observers should adhere to a completely sattvic diet, avoiding tamasic foods like garlic and onions, which can disrupt the sanctity of the fast.
Steering Clear of Negativity
During the fast, it is essential to maintain purity in thoughts, words, and actions. Using harsh language or harboring negative sentiments can taint the fast.
Religious Observances
Pandit Shukla advises that on Ekadashi, after a morning bath, devotees should worship Lord Vishnu by offering Tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, and Panchamrit. It is ideal to dedicate the day to devotion, meditation, chanting, and acts of charity.
Beyond Mere Ritual
The essence of Ekadashi is not to inflict hardship on the body but to cleanse the mind and spirit. Therefore, the true achievement of the fast lies not solely in food abstinence but in enhancing one's behavior and thoughts.
