Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made serious allegations against the central government and said that the state fulfilled its responsibility by providing 150 lakh metric tons of rice and 1.25 lakh metric tons of wheat to the country, but the central government went back on its promise.
Chief Minister Mann said, “The farmers of Punjab worked hard day and night for the food security of the country. We filled the warehouses of the Centre. But what did we get in return? Only statements and empty promises.”
The government had promised Rs 1600 crore
He told that the Central Government had promised Rs 1600 crore, but not even a single rupee was sent. “It was just a phrase and they walked away,” the Chief Minister said, reacting strongly.
Mann further said that the central government is talking about cutting the money which every state should get under other schemes from the Rs 1600 crore. “What kind of justice is this? Even what is our right is being given to us in the name of a promise,” he said.
Central government wants to suppress Punjab
The Chief Minister said in clear words that the Central Government wants to suppress Punjab. “But Punjab is now in our hands. We are neither suppressed nor will we be suppressed,” he said firmly.
He assured the farmers that the state government will fight for their rights on every front. “The farmers of Punjab feed the country, and we stand with them,” Mann said.
The Chief Minister demanded the Central Government to immediately pay the dues of Punjab and stop step-motherly treatment with the state. He said that the voice of Punjab cannot be suppressed any longer.
