Ragi is highly beneficial for health, especially during the winter season. Its warming properties help keep the body warm from within. Ragi is rich in calcium, iron, and various essential nutrients. The calcium in it helps strengthen bones and teeth, while its iron content may help prevent anemia. It also supports better digestion.

During winter, most people consume ragi in the form of laddus or rotis. However, there are many other delicious ways to include ragi in your diet. In South India, a traditional and nutritious dish called ragi mudde is especially popular. Let’s take a look at its recipe.

What is Ragi Mudde?
Ragi mudde is a traditional dish from Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh. It resembles a laddu in shape and is very easy to prepare at home. It requires minimal oil and spices, making it a healthy and light option for winter.

Start by mixing ragi flour with water in a pot and place it on the stove. Stir continuously to avoid lumps. As the mixture begins to thicken, use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix thoroughly. Within 1 to 2 minutes, the mixture will turn into a dough-like consistency.

Cover it and let it cook for another 2 minutes so the ragi steams properly. Turn off the heat. Wet your hands with a little water or apply some ghee, then shape the hot mixture into round balls.

You can serve ragi mudde with sambar, peas curry, chicken curry, rasam, or dal. It is simple to make, light to digest, and very nutritious. A small dab of ghee on top makes it even more flavorful. Ragi mudde paired with hot rasam is an easy and healthy meal for winter.
