Tata Electronics to expand workforce to 75,000

Tata Electronics, a major player in India's electronics and semiconductor manufacturing sector, is on the fast track to growth. The company will soon match Foxconn's headcount in India.

In the next six months, Tata Electronics plans to increase its workforce at its Hosur plant from 60,000 to 75,000.

The move comes as part of an expansion strategy driven by Apple's rapid growth in electronics manufacturing services (EMS).

According to the Tata Sons annual report, Tata Electronics posted a whopping ₹66,601 crore in revenue for FY25. This is a massive jump from the previous year's ₹3,752 crore.

However, finding skilled manpower to support this rapid expansion has proven to be a challenge for the company.

The company is said to be "struggling with finding enough skilled manpower," as it scales up operations.

This challenge is not unique to Tata Electronics but is an industry-wide issue, with experts predicting that the skill gap could rise to 16.9% in the coming years.

The electronics manufacturing industry in India is facing a major shortage of skilled workers.

A report by TeamLease Services had predicted that by 2027-28, the sector will create 12 million direct and indirect jobs.

However, it could also face a massive shortfall of eight million workers and a skill gap affecting another 10 million people.

The industry has flagged a critical talent shortage in niche areas like communication and broadcast electronics, consumer electronics, industrial electronics, aerospace, and defense electronics.
