Adam Wharton will snub a move to Manchester United if Ruben Amorim's men fail to secure European qualification. United have made the England and Crystal Palace star one of their main transfer targets next summer.
Amorim believes the midfielder's quality on the ball makes him an ideal fit for the team he wants to build at Old Trafford. And United are confident of landing Wharton next summer in a £70million deal.
But while Wharton favours a return to the north west, he will not leave Palace to join a club that cannot offer him European football. The 21-year-old believes he is ready to take that next step to a bigger club, which involves performing on the biggest stage on a regular basis.

United are not in Europe at all this season, following a shambolic campaign last time out.
And United travel to face Wharton and Palace on Sunday lunchtime in mid-table, following more inconsistent results.
United have also targeted the likes of Elliot Anderson and Conor Gallagher, but Wharton remains their No.1 choice.
Joao Gomes, the Wolves midfielder, has been linked with a potential January move. But United sources have distanced the club from the Brazilian international, while Wolves aren't interested in selling in January as they scrap for their lives at the bottom of the table, having failed to win a league game so far this term.
