Reportedly, the arrangements for his final viewing have been made at his residence in JP Nagar.
A journey of five decades in cinema
Umesh began his acting journey in 1960 with 'Makkala Rajya' which was released in the year 1960 and was directed by BR Panthulu. His trademark dialogue delivery, expressive humour and unmatched ability to light up screens made him one of Kannada cinema’s most adored performers.
In 1975, he bagged the Karnataka State Award for Best Supporting Actor for 'Katha Sangama'.
A sudden decline in health
In October this year, Umesh slipped and fell in the bathroom at his home and was immediately taken to the hospital. What initially appeared to be a leg and shoulder injury soon turned into heartbreaking news. Scans revealed that he was battling advanced liver cancer, leading to an immediate cancellation of the planned surgery. According to doctors, although he looked physically strong, the cancer had already spread to other organs by the time it was detected.
Even during his final days, Umesh remained the man everyone loved. A video that went viral recently showed him joking and singing while bedridden, making even visitors emotional with his optimism. Actress Girija Lokesh, who saw him just three days ago, recalled how he continued to crack jokes despite the pain.
Umesh's last performance was in the movie 'Kamal Sridevi' which was released this year. He also played a pivotal role in 'Kuladalli Keelayudo'.
